Those Carpenters

change my name;

keep up my front;

manifest that disdain into

manufactured glee,

socialized entertainment

sitting on my grandfather’s knee,

reading the news on auto-pilot,

hand-me-down hatred

he doesn’t believe

and never did

Granddaddy isn’t a consumer;

he’s a product —

those  carpenters

swept him up like sawdust
