Between Her and the Sky

she peers through the screen door

the cross-hatch and mesh

distort her view

no, this will not do

she steps out to see

why everyone oohs and aahs

at the skies above

a big oak tree

like a giant it stands

between her and the sky

she would smite the mighty beast

if it meant she owned the sky

traveling past the stocky deciduous

light enters her retinas:

reds, oranges, yellows, blues

a touch of white

amorphous and vibrant

incomprehensible beauty

she is supposed to take a picture

but she will not let anything come

between her and the sky
